The Rhyno Power FS-1 Front Squat Harness

This front squat harness from Rhyno Power is an excellent option for anyone looking for an alternative or additional way to perform front or zercher squats (among others). It’s solidly constructed and there are many benefits to using a piece of equipment like this, which will be discussed in the article. This harness would be an excellent addition to many fitness arsenals.

What is a Front Squat Harness?

Many of you may be asking, what is that thing in the pic above? Well, it’s a Front Squat Harness, and it’s not something you see in most gyms. This device goes over the shoulders and you set a barbell on the “notches.” It’s best known to help with front and zercher squats. It can also be used for lunges, good mornings, and calf raises, so don’t let the name fool you. It can be used for more than just front squats.

Why would anyone use a Front Squat Harness?

  1. Traditional front squats are not a comfortable movement for everyone. A harness like this reduces the strain from your wrists and arms that may accommodate normal front squats.
  2. It takes some getting used to, but with less weight on your wrists/arms, you should be able to perform heavier front and zercher squats. You can put more focus on the lower portion of your body when doing these lifts.
  3. You can do Zercher Squats in a safer way that doesn’t destroy your biceps. Seriously, have you ever seen someone do heavy zercher squats? It’s something that will frighten the average citizen.
  4. Forces back to stay upright and attacks the quads. This also helps save the lower back and works the core.

The Rhyno Power FS-1 Squat Harness

This “Made in the USA” harness from Rhyno Power was designed by powerlifters, a physical therapist, and firefighter. It is built solidly and combines NASA invented closed cell foam technology with military-grade metals. This harness feels extremely durable and has been tested with weight up to 800 lbs (use a spotter though if you are going to test the weight this harness can handle). In addition, there is a lifetime warranty on the steel frame. It’s not one size fits all, but there are four different models that are built for many shapes and sizes.

It fits snug on the shoulders and can be adjusted as well to make it wider or more narrow based on your size. The foam helps to create a comfortable feel and there isn’t a whole lot of stress put on the shoulders (surely different with 800 pounds on it though). Similar to using a belt during a workout, the harness is easy to take on and off, or comfortable enough to leave on during sets if not doing anything in between.

The prices range from $179 to $219 (free shipping in USA), which is not necessarily cheap, but cheaper than most specialty barbells.

Lastly, while it can help many, who would benefit the most from the front squat harness?

  1. Whether it’s a lack of mobility, wrist/back/hand injury, or any other reason, this is a game changer for any who finds it uncomfortable to do front and/or zercher squats.
  2. Those looking to build explosiveness through heavier front/zercher squats.
  3. Someone just looking for another way to do these sorts of exercises. Even if you are not someone who struggles a whole lot in doing these lifts, it does not feel the exact same.
  4. Anyone looking to reduce the strain put on their neck, back, wrists, biceps, shoulders, etc.
