Introduction

Before collecting data for 2024, I will post a few more 2023 summary posts. For example, we already have:

It’s always important to keep in mind who is answering these survey questions.

They really are the most passionate home gym owners and are likely engaged within the community.

In addition, these questions were answered on the Garage Gym Experiment Instagram Account, which includes an audience of about 80% male and 75% between ages 25 and 44. In addition, it’s important to note that males in this age range are the most active on the account and more likely to listen to the podcast.

Therefore, when looking at the survey results, keep that and the data below in mind.

The Data

64% are parents!

About half answering these questions say their occupation is “White Collar.”

About 2/3 are using their home gym as the workout option. Another 20% use it as the primary option but go to a different gym.

Over half have spent more than five grand on their home gym. Therefore, most are utilizing pretty complete setups, which may not be “the norm.”

Only 38% save money by owning a home gym. This number has gone down considerably over the years.

However, almost 90% say they save over 15 minutes a day by owning a home gym. This is the #1 benefit consistently mentioned by most.

As expected, physical health is the top reason people work out, but mental health is a relatively close #2 reason. Both are greatly ahead of “look good” and “for competitions.”

Powerlifting is the strength sport of choice for about 41%.

About 28% will do some organized race or lift this year.

75% typically follow a workout program, 41% pay for programming, and 11% have a 1:1 coach.
