Listen

Introduction

The G-20 Pro is the most advanced All-in-One Trainer from Force USA. With this monster rack, you can perform hundreds of different workouts within a 35 sq ft. footprint. The base G-20 unit includes 29 attachments, 2 – 289 lb stack weights, plenty of interior space to accomplish much of what you could do within an entire commercial gym, and is built like a tank. You also can add a world-class lat row station. In addition, the 2022 updates have made this an even better option.

The Force USA G20 is arguably the best “All-in-One Trainer” in the world, and while it’s a high price to pay, the overall value of this unit is high. Is it right for you? By the end of this in-depth review of the Force USA G20, you should know whether it’s an all-in-one rack that you should add.

  • Lat Row Station Upgrade: This is a world-class attachment that can be added to the back of your rack. It does come with a price, and additional space is needed.

Who Is It For?

First of all, let’s get this out of the way. This is not the #1 item on most home gym owners’ to-get list. There are lower-priced ways to get much of the variety the G20 offers, and many won’t be able to afford this without some serious sacrifices. However, you won’t find this rack’s variety in a compact and stable unit like this.

Therefore, who should consider the G20? Many people will benefit from an option like this, though.

Personal Trainers

Personal trainers who are using their home or a smaller private training studio. They need variety within a small space to help out multiple client types. In addition, this is an eye-catching piece of equipment. It’s a tool that would help attract new members to their gym.

Convenience is a priority

Someone who doesn’t necessarily care about the cost but wants the best possible option within a limited space. You’ve got the money and don’t want to mess around. You want to buy once and not have to think about adding to your gym for a long time.

You’ll Use the Smith Machine

A smith machine added to your rack is the most space-efficient way to add one for your home gym and only a small percentage of racks on the market include this feature. If you plan to utilize this feature, a G-Series Rack should highly be considered.

A Functional Trainer is a Priority

An individual where pulley-type training is essential. While you can perform traditional squats and bench presses, a conventional power rack comes at a much lower cost and has a more convenient setup for these lifts.

Multiple People in the Same Household

If multiple people are training within the same household, this allows for a few to work out simultaneously and serves multiple different training styles well.

Who is it not for?

Those who primarily train in CrossFit, Powerlifting, or other programs where a barbell is a primary tool. There are more cost-effective options. Besides, if the price is out of your league, other G-Series options will also give versatility within a small footprint.

Highlighted Specs

Overall, this unit is built like a tank. It includes 11 gauge steel throughout and is not going to budge after having it set up, which also means that you need to find a good spot for it to begin with. The most important specs to know about include:

  • Stack weights up to 289 on each side (more than any other G Series). This also includes a 2:1 pulley ratio, which means that if you have 100 pounds loaded up, 50 pounds need to be lifted. More resistance can be added, with an option to utilize the band peg holders. If you’re someone who would like a 2:1 or 4:1 ratio, the Force USA G-15 All-in-One should be considered, which can alternate between both! The 2:1 pulley has recently been added to the G20 Pro. Before it was 1:1, which was not quite as versatile.

  • Twenty-nine attachments are included with the G20 (discussed below). This is a rarity. Most attachments when purchasing other racks are all included as an add-on with a price added to it.

  • High quality, quiet, and rated for 2,000 lb. pulleys. The pulley movements are as smooth as it gets and definitely of better quality than some of the other more budget-friendly options. They rotate 180 degrees which adds more versatility to your workout setup.

  • Westside spacing with 51 different adjustment points is included on the front posts so that you can make adjustments to the precise height for squats, bench, shoulder presses, etc.

  • The Smith Machine may not be for everyone, but this is not the machine’s center point. This part of the unit gets a lot of attention and is not of high interest to many. However, it doesn’t get in the way of much. You may need to maneuver it around a bit, but it does not get in the way of using a traditional barbell or pull-up bar in front. Nevertheless, this is a linear bearing smith machine with a 774 lb weight capacity and 14 different racking positions. If anything, it would be a nice change of pace option for those that do not typically use this feature.

  • There is also plenty of interior space to feel comfortable within the cave and utilize the lat row station if you upgrade.

Assembly

Assembly will likely take a few days. However, the assembly can be added for an additional fee. Force has partnered with a third-party group of professional installers to take the burden off of the buyer and save them time.

Dimensions and Space Necessary

This unit has a ton going on, and you may be thinking there is no way you can get that in your home, but it doesn’t take up as much space as you might imagine. The G20 includes a width of 75 inches, a depth of 67 inches, and a height of 91 inches. This all-in-one is about the size of your typical six-post power rack but a bit wider due to the barbell of the Smith Machine poking out, which takes into account a barbell that would be used anyways.

It’s also important to note that since there is so much that can be done within the rack, there may not be much that you need to add around it. Storage, functional trainer, and other strength machines are not necessary when you have a concise unit like this.

Some additional info includes:

  • The plate storage is positioned on the back of the rack. You would need extra space behind the rack for storage and getting back there to get plates. However, plate storage can be backed up to the wall, and some footprint will be spared if plate storage is not required.
  • If you decide to add the lat pulldown to the back, it’s an additional 28 inches added to the depth.

29 Attachments Included

That is not a typo. This unit comes with 29 attachments that you do not need to pay additional dollars for! A few have already been mentioned above, but some additional ones include:

  • Monolifts
  • Traditional j-hooks
  • Landmine
  • Lat Pull-Down Bar
  • Close Grip Frame Bar
  • VersaPad
  • Band Pegs
  • Calf Block
  • Straight Bar
  • Safety Spotter Arms
  • Hammer Grip Bar
  • Revolving Straight Bar
  • Adjustable and regular D Handles
  • Leg Attachment
  • Tricep Rope

The overall quality is pretty good, and there are no concerns about these deteriorating quickly, especially within a home gym setting.

The picture below (also on the product page) can be overwhelming. However, it’s important to note that you would never have all of these attachments on the machine. If you did, it would make for a congested feel. As you can see in most of the pictures, most attachments are stripped off when in use, and it’s a smooth workout experience.

In addition, there are many hooks throughout to help keep many of the attachments on the rack.

Lat Row Station Upgrade

This upgrade that goes on the back of the machine is an extremely well-made add-on. It includes a 289 lb weight stack with high and low options. Also, there is an easy-to-adjust knee lock along with a well-made footplate. If this were a standalone option, it would be an extremely popular item within the home gym crowd.

A foldable dip bar with five adjustment points and barbell storage is also included. As previously mentioned, there is plenty of interior space to utilize to its full potential. There is no dip attachment added within the base package, so the upgrade seems necessary if that is important to you.

What Can You Do?

There isn’t much that you cannot do on this all-in-one unit.

  • The front rack can be used for squats, bench, shoulder presses, and anything you’d typically do with rack posts.

  • The functional trainer allows you to do hundreds of pulley movements, including cable crossover, upright row, bicep curl, lat pulldown, low row, single-arm row, etc. All the attachments needed for these are included in the initial package.

  • There are three pull-up bars. From the front is your standard multi-grip pull-up bar. The globe-grip pull-up bars look good, but you need to be mindful of where the bar from the Smith Machine is. In general, the placement of these bars is not ideal.
  • The landmine adds another way to do many rows, pressing, and core exercises.
  • The versa pad allows for pushup variations, split squats made easier, dips, hip thrusts, etc.
  • Calf raises and suspension training (TRX) are also easier with included attachments.
  • Squat, bench, and press on the Smith Machine. You can also perform a vertical leg press with the plate attachment included.

In addition, while not all combinations are available depending on what’s being used, super setting is made easy with this machine. For example, you could be squatting, doing lat pulldowns from any of the three options, tricep pushdowns, landmine rows, and also pull-ups on the side. The same logic can be used for multiple people working out on the same.

Other Notes

  • Adjusting the pulley heights is an easy process, and it’s worth mentioning how smooth the pulley system is due to the high-quality pulleys and the cable alignment. There is very little friction throughout the entire G20.

  • A walkthrough design is included on the G20 if you don’t get the lat pulldown upgrade as well. This can be helpful when working out with multiple people or are a personal trainer trying to guide someone through a workout.
  • Force USA offers a Lifetime Structural Warranty and two years of coverage on all cables and pulleys.
  • At $5,999.99, the price has come down quite a bit, and it can be purchased through Affirm with rates as low as 0% APR.

G12 vs. G20

The G12 is $1,000 less than the G20 without the additional lat upgrade, and it may be difficult to tell any differences without looking more in-depth.

  • The additional pounds on the stack weights on the G20 can make a difference for those that are stronger than most. (201 vs. 279). Plus, it’s just nice to have that option.
  • There is also a bit more depth for the G20, which helps you feel more comfortable within the G20. For those limited on space, that may be a con.

  • Westside spacing is added to the G20, while it is not an option for the G12.
  • The G20 is a few inches taller. This is helpful for people that are taller doing the cable movements. While it will fit in 8 feet ceilings, this may be a negative for those with ceiling height struggles.
G12

G15 vs. G20

The most significant difference between the G15 and G20 is the ability for pulley ratio used on the G15, which can interchange between 2:1 (100 lbs = 50 lbs) and 4:1 (100 lbs = 25 lbs). That compares to the 2:1 pulley ratio of the G20. For cable movements, many appreciate the other ratios for more weight versatility if not planning to max out the functional trainer portion of the unit. Outside of that, the primary differences include:

  • As mentioned in the section above discussing the G12, there is also more depth for the G20, which helps you feel a bit more comfortable within the G20. Again, for those limited on space, that may be a con.
  • The G20 is four inches taller. This is helpful for people that are taller doing the cable movements. While it will fit in 8 feet ceilings, this may be a negative for those with ceiling height struggles.

X20 vs. G20

Lastly is a matchup of the two most premium racks Force USA offers. The X20 will likely be available in June 2022, so how does it compare to the G20?

  • There is no smith machine, which makes the overall user experience even smoother smooth. When dealing with the G20, you’ll need to move it out of the way to do a particular movement, but it’s a very smooth experience on the X20. Those without interest in a smith machine will likely opt for the X20.

  • The X20 has 3×3 post sizes with 1-inch holes. Thus, it’s compatible with many other attachments on the market. While the attachments on the G20 are more than capable, this may be something that those with specific preferences consider. For example, if you want to add a particular type of j-cup that you prefer, it can be done. However, this cannot be accomplished with the G20 or any of the G-Series.
  • A 2:1 ratio is included on the X20 vs. the 1:1 on the G20. As mentioned earlier, this is a ratio that many prefer.
  • A dedicated lat pulldown is a must for many. With the G20 add-on, that is easy to do. However, while you can perform a lat pulldown on the front of the X20, it’s not quite the same. First, it takes time to set up. Then, you’ll also need to keep in mind the 2:1 pulley ratio. While most of the population will be fine, it may “max out” for the stronger people on this planet.

Conclusion

The Force USA G20 is a commercial quality all-in-one trainer that packs many commercial gym favorite machines into one unit. It may just be the most versatile option within the footprint. Whether you have your own training space, have multiple people at home working out, or want the best, this G20 may give you the versatility you need. While it comes at a price overwhelming for most home gym owners, this piece’s overall value is still pretty high when you factor in everything included. It would be a dream rack for many.
