Rogue USA Aluminum Collars Review

In a January 2021 survey, it was discovered that about 2/3 had at least medium interest in “premium barbell clips/collars,” with nearly a quarter expressing high interest. The Magnetic Rogue USA Aluminum Collars would be considered a premium offering compared to most others on the market. While lower-priced options will get the job done for most of the world, these magnetic options are more than just a flex 💪. They are lightweight, made in the USA (imported magnets), make workouts more convenient, and (most importantly) include a powerful lockdown.

If you can stomach the price, the pros outweigh the cons.

ProsCons
Will hold just about any weight tight with no concerns about budging.Costly, at $67.50 a pair
Magnets make using the collars more convenient and are easy to store.Quick snap back takes some getting used to
Solid construction and look very slick.

More info includes:

  • The overall strength of the collars is not in question. When latched to the bar, it seems impossible to move, and even with a 70 kg set flipped upside down and kicking down, there is absolutely no movement.
  • Strong collars are a must for loadable dumbbells. These fit DB-15’s, Micro Gainz, and Titan Loadable dumbbells extremely well. It is compatible with any traditional Olympic bar but may not fit tightly on certain specialty bars with slimmer sleeves.

  • The “high strength N45 magnets” allow you to easily store any rack or other metals you may have around like a wall-control board. They are strong magnets but still relatively easy to take off the rack or remove from the bar. This does not only help to store when not in use but will help streamline some of your workouts.
  • These are sleek. They include a matte black hard coat finish that’ll most likely get nicked up over time, but the overall construction of these will hold for a very long time.
  • The collars are strong, but they snap back relatively quickly and require a bit of force to lock and release. It does take a few times to get used to. If a quicker release is a more important feature, you may be better off getting something like the Rogue HG 2.0 Collars. These are also quite a bit cheaper.
  • With a protective rubber lining, your barbells will be safe. Even with a Cerakote finish, there didn’t seem to be any issues with collars being scratched.

In the end, are they worth it for most people? Probably not. However, they are simply a premium option that is easy on the eyes, will keep the weight locked down, and help keep your gym tidy.
