Intro
This is about as basic of a trap bar as you will find, and the article will not be the most exciting review you’ll ever read. In general, the REP Trap Bar is built solidly and includes a longer loadable sleeve length than most budget-friendly trap bars. Those who aren’t keen on pulling the trigger on a more expensive open trap bar will still provide some value and should be considered. If you are just looking for an old-school, basic trap bar, that’ll put less strain on your back doing deadlifts, this will get the job done for you.
SPECS & Observations
- A medium knurl is included With a combination of a 25mm handles (thinner than most traditional barbells), this feels solid for high volume work and won’t rip up your hands to easily. Without question, some may wish there was a more aggressive knurl while the majority will appreciate this, but it’s still easy to hold a grip.
- A 500-pound weight limit accompanies this barbell, which feels conservative. The welds are not the prettiest thing in the world, but it definitely feels like it could handle more weight, but with 16″ loadable sleeves, there is plenty of space to load up and not worry about running out of space. Many of the other “budget-friendly” trap bars do not include this sleeve length. The closest trap bar that does at this price range seems to be the Hex Trap Bar V2 from Titan, which is $50 more.
- Both of the high and low handles can be used with the high handle 6″ above the lower option.
- The chrome finish will do a good job of oxidation resistance over time and should help keep the bar looking solid for years to come, as opposed to powder coating, which will chip relatively easily over time.
- From handle to handle, there is about 25″ and a little less than 28″ from front to back. Overall, there is plenty of space for most to fit and the handle distance is comfortable.
Conclusion
At $219 with free shipping, this is one of the better value options out there. It is quite a bit cheaper than most “Open Trap Bars” but includes that longer sleeve length than most other budget options. While it would be nice if the “weight limit” were higher, this will do the job for most of the world.
