Gut Wrench Review

This versatile piece of equipment takes up little space, is easy to transport, very durable, and can do just about anything a typical landmine can do. At $159 (handmade in Iowa), the price will immediately rule out some potential buyers, but the Gut Wrench is a unique tool that many who work out from home could benefit greatly from.

Why?

Home gym owners are always looking for compact items that provide versatility in a little amount of space. Landmine workouts have become extremely popular in recent years for many in the fitness industry for these reasons. With landmines, you can perform a nearly endless amount of workouts with one compact tool (+ barbell and plates, which many already have). One has the ability to push, pull, lunge, squat, deadlift, and more with a tool like this. You can doa full-body workout or target something specific because it can work the core and other unique muscles. The Gut Wrench can do all this.

Portability

What separates the Gut Wrench from most other landmines on the market is its ability to be easily moved from one spot to the next. A typical landmine needs to be mounted to another device such as a squat rack or hoisted in between bumper plates. Therefore, landmines usually are a pain to use outside of a specific spot in a gym. The gut wrench can be easily thrown in a bag and taken anywhere because it weighs less than 5 pounds. This makes it especially useful for personal trainers or anyone who works out in multiple different spots.

However, if portability is not important, then just go with a rack mounted option. They are cheaper and can handle more weight without making adjustments (discussed in next section).

Limitation

One drawback of this It will shift back slightly for exercises like heavy rows, but you can set it against something like a heavy sandbag to stop this. This begins to occur when there are a few plates on it.

Durable

Each Gut Wrench is handcrafted with great attention to detail by Stronger Than U. These are about as tough as it gets and should last a very long time.

More Info

  • No Assembly is required. Below is a video of it being created!

  • There is a screw to help hold the barbell, which is typical for landmine devices. This holds a tight squeeze, is easy to do, and doesn’t noticeably scratch the bar. When using a landmine, though, it’s just typical to plan on using some “beater bar” to account for attachments like this with the screw.
  • There is an option to get a custom color.
  • The sticker has held up well for awhile not, but it may be nice to have an unbranded option for those that do not want a sticker, which may ultimately scrape.

Conclusion

In the end, the Gut Wrench is a tool that many could benefit greatly from, especially those with a limited amount of space to begin with. It’s not necessarily a cheap edition to the gym, but could potentially add a ton of versatility to your home gym.
