Rack Attached or Standalone?

Below are several potential rack-attached options and standalone machines for your home gym, sorted from the highest to lowest percentage of rack-attached votes.

In this section, you’ll also see the year-over-year change. Smith machines, belt squats, lat pulldown/low-row units, and functional trainers all showed a significant increase in rack-attached votes compared to last year.

Questions specific to home gym workouts

Below are several questions about your home gym workout experience and how it compares to last year.
Overall, the results show that most people who train at home really enjoy the lifestyle.

A few that stand out include:

  • 64% say they work out longer in a home gym vs. a public gym.
  • 63% workout harder in the home gym vs. the public gym.
  • 78% of people work out more often because they own a home gym.
  • 86% prefer home gym workouts to public gyms.
  • Only 26% say they are less motivated at a home gym vs. a public gym.

Level of Interest in the Used Marketplace, DIY Projects, and Home Gym Hacks

Interest in these three potential ways/aspects of building out a home gym isn’t especially high, but the used marketplace ranks higher than home-gym hacks or DIY projects.

All received fewer “high interest votes” than last year.

  • Preferences are split between traditional Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals and the month-long sales offered by most brands.

  • Nearly 80% follow a workout program, 36% pay for programming, and 9% have a 1:1 coach. This is very similar to what we’ve seen in past years.

  • About half of the respondents have owned their home gym for less than five years, while the other half have had one for longer. The most common response was 2–5 years, which likely reflects the surge in home-gym growth during the COVID boom.

  • Most are making significant investments into their home gyms. Only 11% have spent less than $2,500.

  • High interest in the Rogue Boneyard was only about 18% in 2025 vs. 36% in 2023.
