While there are already cheaper options from Amazon brands and VTS, Bells of Steel appears to be the first mainstream brand to introduce a rack-mounted Smith machine with a few unique features:
- Bar Options: You can choose between a version with a fixed bar or a “Bring Your Own Bar” (BYOB) option, allowing you to use your own barbell, which can be easily added or removed.
- Both versions are compatible with 49″ wide racks, though only the BYOB option is compatible with 47″ wide racks.
- Bells of Steel also notes that this attachment is compatible with many non-Bells of Steel racks that have 3″x3″ tubing, 84-90″ height, and 5/8″ or 1″ side holes.
- Space-Efficient Design: This attachment mounts on the inside or outside of your rack, adding only 14″ to your uprights. As a result, it requires minimal additional space.
- Unique Angled Bar Path: Unlike most other rack-mounted or all-in-one Smith machines, this attachment includes an angled setup (if you’d prefer), offering a more natural bar path.
- To expand on this, during squats or bench presses, your body’s natural movement isn’t perfectly vertical. The slight forward and backward movement in exercises like squats is better accommodated with this angled design, reducing joint strain and promoting a more comfortable and biomechanically sound lift.
