Preview: The Titan Seated Stationary Bench is an affordable, compact, and easy-to-move 90-degree bench that allows for comfort and mobility for seated overhead movements, making it a solid option for home gym owners with limited space or low ceilings, though it may not be necessary if an adjustable bench is already available.
Introduction
The Titan Seated Stationary Bench is not going to wow any home gym owner with its quality or function, but its simplicity can be everything you’re looking for if you are in the market for a 90-degree bench.
Why do you need a 90-degree stationary bench if you have an adjustable bench? I will answer that question and more below as someone who uses this bench regularly in addition to a fully adjustable bench.
I’ll also discuss its build quality, similar options, how I use it, and overall take within this post.
Key Takeaways
Before I get all into the mud about the build, other benches like this, and so on, let me quickly hit the big takeaways I can give you from my experience with this bench.
- The seated movements feel better on this bench vs your adjustable bench.
- Having a full back pad like you would have on your adjustable bench pitches you forward when doing overhead movement and trying to arch your back. The full bench pad also is a workaround for overhead tricep work.
- Easy to move.
- This bench is light. According to the product page, it weighs only 38 pounds. It also has a handle and wheels on the back. Pick it up and toss it in the corner, or wheel it to its home. Having a bench that is easy to take out and put away erases friction and allows you to use it more.
- Small footprint.
- Space is a top 3 issue for most home gym owners. Bringing an additional bench for most gyms would be either an issue or at minimum an inconvenience. This bench takes up about half the space as a full sized bench and is less than half of the weight of a full sized bench.
Design and Build
There is not much to it.
The bench ships in 3 bolt-together steel frame parts. When assembled, you will have a simple ‘T’ design that leaves your front feet free from any obstruction, with the horizontal stability being at the back of the bench fit with wheels for easy mobility. Under the seat in the front of the bench is a handle for easy movement.
The back support is 30” wide, and from the back of the wheels to the front of the bench is 40.5”. A rough estimate of square footage that you will lose storing this bench, you can look at the support as a rectangle and call this 8.5 sq ft, which isn’t a lot.
The pads are what you will find on most newer benches (the same that is on my REP wide pad). It’s a grippy firm padding with the Titan Branding embedded into it. The seat sits 18” off the ground and the back pad goes 19.5 inches up your back.
Similar Products
There are not a ton of benches like this available from your major home gym companies, and the ones that are out there are larger and more expensive.
A notable product is the Exponent Edge Infinity Bench which is a fully adjustable bench that allows the top half of the back pad to fold back giving you a stationary bench. That bench (the Infinity Bench) is marketed to be much more, and is also nearly 5x the price of the Titan bench. It is not a fair comparison.
The Titan Seated Stationary Bench is the simplest, most inexpensive option.
How I Use It
I am a basement gym guy. When I was a commercial gym goer, I would do all of my presses standing. Since being a low ceiling basement, I have tried pressing in between ceiling joists (hard pass), using a cambered bar to press overhead (clunky), pressing from a kneeling position (no thanks), and using my adjustable bench set at 90 degrees (doable). The only tolerable way to do these movements was using my adjustable bench, but the high back pad made the movement feel off. I was being pitched forward as my shoulder blades wanted to arch slightly back.
I found using the seated stationary bench allowed me to be more mobile in the overhead position.
It also allowed me to do overhead tricep work while still using the bench for back support.
Unlocking overhead pressing movements as well as another arm accessory (which every good gym bro wants/needs) with a relatively inexpensive easy to use bench has been a nice addition for my gym.
Overall Take/Recommendation
Would I recommend this bench?
If someone were asking for a 90-degree stationary bench like they used at their commercial gym, this would be a good bench.
The honest truth is most people would be fine using their adjustable bench or if they can press standing overhead.
If you are looking for a bench like this, this one is inexpensive, simple, and easy to get out and put away. It fits my space perfectly.
