The survey results displayed below give some pretty basic information about who is answering these types of survey questions and what their space looks like.

I think these are great to know, especially for understanding other “more detailed” survey results that this blog displays throughout the year.

Home Gym Square Footage is Relatively Spread Out

The most popular response was about 200 square feet, with 32% of the votes. Meanwhile, around a quarter of respondents are either making do with just 100 square feet, or enjoying a more spacious setup of 400 square feet or more.

About 3 out of 5 home gyms are in the garage

Most home gyms are located in the garage (61.8%), followed by the basement (22.6%). A smaller portion is found in other rooms of the house (7.8%) or in sheds, barns, outdoors, and other areas (7.7%).

86% have ceiling heights of approximately 8 feet or higher

Most home gym ceilings are 8 feet high (35.6%), followed by 9 feet (27.7%) and 10 feet or higher (23.1%). About 13.6% of gyms have ceilings that are 7 feet or lower.

25% Believe their primary rack is “too full”

While space is not a luxury for most, most would consider at least one specialty machine.

9% are running businesses out of their home gyms.

This is on par with what we’ve seen in previous years.

Only 18% have 3 or more utilizing their home gym.

“Two” was the most popular answer with 43% of the votes when asking how many utilize home gym.

Workout times are pretty spread out throughout the day

Before 8 AM and After 5PM were the most popular responses.

Only 18% have had a home gym more than 7 years.

44% had a home gym before COVID

Most started during or after COVID.

The majority do not save money by owning a home gym.

93% Save Time by owning a home gym

The majority do save time by owning a home gym.
