Introduction
I was able to grab a pair of the TwistLock™ Pro Barbell Collars from Titan at HomeGymCon and thought they were a cool innovation at the time.
However, I didn’t truly appreciate them until they organically became my “go-to” collars within my home gym, replacing my Rogue USA Aluminum Collars. Their clamp is not quite as strong, but it is definitely easier to use.
Therefore, I wanted to write about them, and I’ll dive into the details in the rest of this review.
In general, there are better value collars on the market, but I appreciate their ease of use and magnetic features. Plus, they are strong enough for my needs.
For anyone looking to add unique and convenient-to-use collars, these Twistlock Collars would be a good option.
Ease of Use
Every second counts during your home gym workouts.
While most collars aren’t incredibly difficult to put on, these are about as easy as it gets, and this is one of the features that make them unique.
To put it on, you simply slide on, and twist.
Then, to take off, you untwist and pull off.
For some barbells it’s even possible to do with one hand. It helps that it is knurled!
Secure Enough
There are collars with a stronger and more secure clamp, however these are still pretty strong and I’d say, “secure enough” for just about anyone.
If I was a world class powerlifter or Olympic Weightlifter, I’d probably look for something with a stronger clamp, but I am not. If you’re reading this – you most likely are not either.
The Titan TwistLock Pro Barbell Collars fit well and you’ll notice only very slight plate movement when performing dynamic movements such as deadlifts or power cleans.
I also own the Rogue Aluminum Collars, and those are more secure, and price about the same, but they are a bit more cumbersome to clamp on.
Magnets
My favorite feature may actually be the magnets.
Therefore, rather than storing it on your weight horns, floor, or wherever, you have the ability to attach it to your rack when not in use.
It’s nice to do this when you are changing plates as well.
Cost
As I mentioned earlier, there are definitely more collars that will do the job at a lower price. You could say that for just about any of the “gym basics,” though.
Personally, I’ve never really had any issues with even the most basic and lowest-priced options. They may be more difficult to use, less convenient, or not look as good, but they’ve always got the job done.
Therefore, if you are going to add these to your home gym, you most likely appreciate the innovative features, want something that stands out, and value convenience during your home workouts.
The price for a pair is $69.99.
More Info and Notes
Here are a few additional notes to keep in mind.
- The black finish does look pretty good, but I’d love to see Titan come out with additional colors!
- I do think that these should last awhile based on their aluminum construction, however this review is being accomplished after only a few months of use. Therefore, keep that in mind.
- These are designed for standard Olympic barbells. They won’t work on those with axle collars.
- These boast a patented design.
Conclusion
In the end, the Titan TwistLock Pro Barbell Collars offer a unique and convenient option for home gym owners seeking a user-friendly way to secure their plates. While their hold might not be the absolute strongest (it’s still pretty good), the easy twist-lock mechanism and secure magnetic storage make them a compelling choice for many home gyms. If you prioritize ease of use and appreciate innovative features, then the Titan TwistLock Pro Collars are definitely worth considering. However, if budget is your main concern, there are other collars that might offer better value. Ultimately, the decision depends on your individual priorities.
