Introduction
These survey questions are slightly different than those we typically ask (not specific to home gyms) but likely give a pretty good insight into what the typical “active person” thinks about specific fitness/health trends that are happening today.
We asked about 16 topics like the carnivore diet, ice baths, body tempering, belt squats, and more. This will be a cool one to track over time, so please reach out if there are any others you’d like to see.
Below you’ll see these broken out by the percentage of “fad” votes. The other option to vote for was “here to stay.”
This article aims to present the data & not necessarily share an opinion on specific topics.

Over 2 in 3 believe these are fads
The carnivore diet was voted by most as a fad followed by body tempering, flywheel training, and keto diet.
As we go through this it’s important to note that many may be simply unfamiliar with a topic, which may lead them to vote “fad.”
More than Half Believe these to be Fads
With between 50% and 62% of the votes velocity training, smart gyms, ice baths, barefoot shoes, and squat wedges are next.
Between 30 and 50% voted “FAD”
Less than half think that nordic curls, knees over toes, massage guns, and subscription workout apps (much less than smart gyms) will become fads.
Less than 30% Think these are Fads.
Finally, only a small percentage believe that CrossFit, belt squats, magnetic rack accessories, open trap bars and saunas are fads.
I find it ironic that people think squat wedges are a fad, yet knees over toes isn’t, when the edge is a tenant of knees over toes and squat shoes(basically the same thing) have been used for decades.
