Every time I post about weight restoration, I get a ton of comments about how the plate weighs less after being cleaned.
I’ve often wondered about that, and I will test it out today. I have a cheap, very rusty 45-pound plate.
In its current state, this thing weighs 47 pounds and 8.2 ounces. Yeah, these generic plates are pretty inaccurate.
I remove the rust with a wire brush head and an angle grinder.
I get into the smaller nooks with my cordless drill and a smaller wire brush head.
Once all the rust is off, I add a fresh coat of paint.
After letting it dry, I am ready to weigh it.
And the final weight is…47 pounds and 7.8 ounces.
Cleaning this weight plate caused it to lose just over half an ounce.
