Step 1
Clean off the weights. If there is a little rust, I use a wire brush and my cordless drill to clean it off. Check out my other article for more in-depth instructions on cleaning plates.
Make sure you clean off any remaining dust before moving on to the next step.
Step 2
Choose your color palette.
The inspiration for my set was based on the colors of my favorite WWF wrestler, The Ultimate Warrior.
Step 3
Spray a white base layer. This isn’t 100% necessary, but it will make the colors pop. Let this dry before moving on to the next step.
Step 4
Spray the colors onto the plate. This is pretty self-explanatory. I did pink, blue, yellow, and then green. Let these dry before moving on to the next step.
Step 5
Drizzle on the dish soap. The slower you go, the wider the lines of soap will be. I did quick movements perpendicular to the direction I sprayed the paint.
Step 6
Spray the black top layer. Let it dry before moving on to the next step.
Step 7
Spray off the dish soap. I used a garden hose for this. Just make sure all of the soap is washed off.
Step 8
Gently pat dry with a paper towel. Be careful not to wipe; you don’t want to smear the paint.
Step 9
Paint the lettering. This is optional. I used a silver leafing pen.
Step 10
Show off your sick weights!
