Episode #44 – Level of Interest in Some New Gym Equipment and the “Process” of Building Out a Home Gym

These are survey results and a podcast summary that was posted earlier in the month. Adam and Kurt start off by going over the “level of interest” from the community for some new products released in 2022. A few of the products discussed include the REP Cambered Swiss Bar, Rogue Multi-Grip Bars, ARES, a few benches, and the new sled from Get RXd.

Later, they discuss the order in which someone should fill out their home gym.

Level of Interest in 2022 Releases

Here is a look at the products we asked about. There are more we’ll add to the list later, and we’ll make sure to add all other interesting releases this year for comparison.

Notable Notes include:

  • The most practical item here had the most “high interest.” The REP AB-4100 received 35% more high votes than anyone else on the list. It also beat out a bench that was a bit more heavy-duty from Bells of Steel. That probably has something to do with the reputation REP has for benches.

  • The new Xebex XT3 Sled is slick, but not a necessity for most. Plus, it’s not cheap. About 12% voted high interest, which was second to the bottom.

(18:34) What Order to Build a Home Gym with Kurt

A summary of this conversation is below:

  • (19:05) Kurt made some equipment mistakes right off the bat. He purchased a bar (not ideal for him), hi-temp plates (wrong choice), a squat stand, and a pull-up bar. While the order wasn’t wrong, it was necessarily what he’d do today. This was back in the 2014 timeframe.
  • (21:33) Consider adding a specialty bar or a second barbell when your training calls for it. Or, if you have issues with certain movements, it may be time.
  • (23:20) Kurt explains the hierarchy of what his gym is today. Much of it revolves around his strongman training and what he expects to see in upcoming events.
  • (27:06) For someone that isn’t sport-specific, Kurt recommends getting a bar, plates, and stall mats. Then, it’s time to get a sturdy rack. He also suggests keeping an eye on the marketplace and building out as you can.
  • (37:12) Cardio equipment discussion.
