DIY Build-OFF

Intro

Matt Pendergraph and Kaizen DIY are squaring off in a build-off! The “build” is a DIY set of Adjustable Dumbbells, which takes inspiration from the HAVAK Designs Triads or THE KYÜBELL via Kabuki (in partnership with HAVAK).

During the build-off, neither could see what the others were doing, and this is what they’ve come up with.

  1. While Matt’s is more aesthetically pleasing, I can build Kaizen’s right now if I wanted to. Also I don’t need additional equipment for the grips or weights. Kaizen’s is more DIY friendly and functional by itself.

    1. Tough call here I do think Matt’s design is more structurally sound… It is connected mostly with metal screwed into metal with wood between… weight is loaded on metal not wood, this is gym equipment after all so it has to be used a little rough… but overall I lean more towards KAIZEN DIY design for the following reasons: 1. I can build them myself without ordering anything special and 2. It closer to the havak design 3. Quicker to load.

With all that said great job both you guys… Hopefully someone makes an affordable loadable clone that would allow for standard or Olympic plates to be used… Titan take notes

  2. Being truthful I absolutely loved both builds👍👌👏 and for me utilising things you have lying around is what I do. So thumbs up for that Mat.
The only reason I chose Kaizen DIY is, we have to pick one and anyone with a small amount of woodworking skills could complete his project👍.

  3. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery is a proverb that means trying do what someone else does, own what someone else owns, or think like someone else thinks is a compliment to that person.

Not all artisans subscribe to this belief…

  4. Both were great builds, but what i loved about Matt’s was that it was a DIY that has a less DIY fell to them. One of the things that makes me less likely to make some of the quality DIY builds out there is that homemade look to them. This build gave you best of both worlds.
