Newsletter Moving
This is going to be the last week of the Newsletter in this format. It is moving to a new platform, which you can sign up through the link below:
This will allow for a cleaner layout and enables more tools to help GGE grow. Much of the content will remain the same, though.
The current email subscription will be used for more traditional blog posts (full reviews, guides, more in-depth survey results, and other articles). If you do not want to receive these, you can unsubscribe at the bottom of the post.

One a Day Recap
Titan Mass Storage: Many storage solutions are unexpectantly expensive, and prices seem to be most egregious when looking at “Mass Storage Systems.” Many options out there will set you back at least a grand, and while beautiful units, they are definitely overbuilt. Starting at $219.99 with free shipping, this storage system from Titan is MUCH CHEAPER than some of the other more robust and versatile options out there. While not as “sexy,” it should get the job done for most who want to get some items off the floor. In the end, a storage setup like this will clear more space for a more convenient spot to work out without damaging the budget too much.
Yes4All Horizontal Wall Mounted Olympic Barbell Rack: This is a budget-friendly and effective way to get three (or six) barbells off of the ground. For $35 (or $56) and about 15 minutes of work, you’ll have a cleaner and better-looking space. The Yes4All storage option is about as cheap as it gets, easy to install, protects your barbell, and is simply a solid storage option. Even for those considering a DIY project, the price is likely good enough to allow you not to spend your precious time working on this as a project.
Rack Style Options for your Home Gym
The Chicken breaks down the power rack, squat stand, foldaway rack, and half-rack, discussing pros and cons for reach.
Sunday Survey Results
43% say their ideal rack based on space and budget is a power rack. Here’s what some GGE Contributors have to say:
- @kaizendiygym: My preference is a power rack. If you have the space for one, I think a power rack gets you the best bang for your buck. There are more attachments available for power racks than any of the others and they’re pretty easy to expand when you’re ready for more.
- @thechickenhomegym: Given my limited ceiling height, a squat stand was perfect for my home gym. BUT with some squat stands you can turn them into half racks as well so it’s a good starting point.
- @mattpendergraph: What style rack is best for your current space and budget? I’ve personally always gravitated towards power racks due to the functionality and piece of mind they provide! When you’re moving any amount of weight, nothing is more reassuring than being completely surrounded by steel uprights, crossmembers, and safeties catches!
A little over a third said they watched at least some of the CrossFit Games.
Only 14% of respondents have had a home gym for more than five years. About 43% began one within the last year or two, probably due to COVID-19.
Nearly 3/4 say their home gym is between 30 and 90 percent “finished.”
What are you buying first between a ploy box, sandbag, medicine ball, and gymnastics rings? Plyo Box wins with a third of the votes and rings came in last with just 15% of the voters.
Rogue dominated the “where are you most likely to buy a power rack” question with over half of the votes. 18% also said REP and 12% voted Titan. Only 17% said they would most likely get one outside of these three companies.
