Owning Multiple Barbells – Overrated or Underrated?

When this question was posted on Instagram, an overwhelming amount of support came out for fans of owning multiple barbells. Over 80% voted underrated, while 12% said overrated, and 8% basically went with it depends on the situation.

Below are some quotes of the common themes:

Underrated

“For the home gym, some of these bars dramatically change the exercise (whereas in a commercial gym there would be a separate machine specifically to target those changes) for a very tiny footprint and relatively low cost. For that reason, in a small footprint and small incremental investment, they’re very nice to have.” – @elang1115

“Underrated! The right variation can expand your exercise selection 100x” – @calum.webb

“Underrated. Specialized bars make some exercises more effective and safer at the same time.” – @bdahern

It Depends

“Owning multiple straight bars is SUPER overrated in a home gym. Owning all the specialty bars is not done nearly enough.” – r.i.strengthandconditioning

“In this case – perfect! Having 6 of the same type of bar naaaah” – @basementgymdad

“Can get away easily with 1 barbell with some imagination on knowledge in biomechanics. But if you have the money and most importantly the space. And would like to expand you options, go for it. Don’t think there is a too much” – @robertovavassori87

“If you’re injured, underrated. If you’re a novice, overrated. Sometimes simplicity is the best choice.” – @awildnelby

Overrated

“I would have to say overrated but simply due to the home gym population rating it very highly. Unless you have an injury that necessitates it, you can make incredible gains with just one barbell. That said, I personally enjoy having the option of multiple bars.” thegalaxiept2
