When Louie Simmons, the founder of Westside Barbell and Rogue release a product together much of the fitness world pays attention. The Westside Barbell Scout Hyper, designed by Louie, and now sold at Rogue was released just a few weeks ago. Here are some first impression notes:
- It took about 20 minutes to put together with a good amount already assembled.
- The padding is comfortable and supportive to lay on.
- No real concern of wobble. It’s built extremely solidly and the rubber feet help the overall stability. However, it’s not as robust as most other reverse hypers.
- The strap is long enough to also be able to utilize full-size plates/bumpers.
- At $350 + Tax + Shipping, you probably won’t find a cheaper or better value option.
- It is not made in the USA.
- The fold-up process is extremely easy and is possible to do in under 10 seconds. It’s reduced to a depth of just over a foot when up against a wall.
- At 86 pounds it’s a little awkward to move around, but manageable.
- This is probably the most home gym friendly reverse hyper offered today.
- It has been released for sale on Rogue’s website twice since 9/4, selling out within minutes each time. No ETA on when it will be available again.
The Only 100 kg Kettlebell You Can Buy in The World?
Yep, I tried to Google it and came up empty.
The 100kg kettlebell is not something that many home gym owners would actually purchase, but it’s pretty insane! This is a part of the Tweener ™️ Bells from Great Lakes Girya which also includes 64kg, 72kg, 84kg, 88kg, and 96kg. Many of these sizes cannot be found anywhere else.
Other items in stock at Great Lakes Girya include a “High Quality Dumbbell Rack,”, barbells, flooring, rings, and many other items available for pre-order. Great Lakes Girya is based in Canada, but also ships to the US.
Maybe The Best Way to Clean Your Bare Steel Gym Equipment
The 360 Barbell Brush is a steel bristle brush that can clean up your barbells, pull-up bars, kettlebells, or even dumbbells. This particular brush is best for bare steel items and there doesn’t seem to be a better product out there doing this. For only $24.99, this will make you feel better about purchasing that bare steel barbell.
The nylon option (available for pre-order) will help those zinc, cerakote, or stainless steel items.
Check out this before and after photo. The entire bar was done in about 10 minutes (about the time it took to drink the beer).
Bells of Steel Pulley Attachment
A few weeks ago, 70% had at least a medium interest in a budget pulley system, which greatly outperformed the functional trainer. Here is a perfect example of one that is in stock. This attachment from Bells of Stell will add a number of pulley based exercises to your arsenal at a fraction of the price of a functional trainer. It also takes up less space and is easy to store. Lat pulldowns, tricep press downs, and face pulls are just some of the exercises possible.
Hot or Not Results for 9.16
Via the Instagram story, it was asked whether or not certain products were “hot” or “not?” Here are the key points.
- The Mass Storage System (Fray Fitness) is a dream setup for any home gym system. A massive 90% voted hot, which beat out all of the competition by over 15%.
- Contrast Bumper Plates (74%) beat out Black Bumper Plates (63%) by over 10%.
- The red functional trainer from Fray Fitness and the Rep Iso Arms both scored in the ’70s
- Items in the ’60s were the slim rack from Rogue and the newly released Westside Barbell Scout Hyper
- A couple of higher-end products represented the ’50s – the Torque M4 Tank and the new Force USA G20.
- Last place was the Iso-Lateral Chest Press and Lat Pulldown Combo from Fray Fitness. This is an item that is probably not a priority for many working out with limited space.
- And here are the actual numbers:
Sunday Survey Results for 9.7
- Experience with different specialty bars is low. Nearly 35% have never used and another 53% have only tried 1-3.
- In a head to head matchup, 66% chose horse stall mats over deadlift platforms. In another question over half said that their interest in a deadlift platform was either high or medium.
- 59% give up a parking spot for their gym.
- 84% plan on adding to their gym before the end of the year.
- 67% believe there will be equipment deals during Black Friday, even during these times.
- Most are not going to purchase a machine for a single exercise, but over 20% said they are likely to do so, which is probably more than many expected.
- Some use bands, others don’t. This one is pretty spread out.
- Finally, the deadlift wins as the favorite list of the options below.
