8.16.2020

  • Just about 41% believe that it’s either “almost essential” or important that the gym equipment was made in their country. Therefore, a majority of respondents are either neutral or feel that it’s not important.
  • The distribution of “made in your country” equipment is relatively spread out. There are some with very little and others with a lot of gym equipment that was made in their country.
  • If you had to choose between Rogue, Force USA, Rep Fitness and Sorinex, which would you go with? All of these have different price points, equipment for a certain amount of space, etc, but Rogue received about 2 out of 3 votes, leading the way. Rep Fitness was a distant second with 21%.
  • Over 3 out of 4 say that they lift with pounds exclusively.
  • This may be a biased question to ask a group of home gym owners, but only 32% do not believe that the popularity of home gyms will not pass commercial gyms.
  • Many have been busy lately in adding to their gym even though it can be tough to get equipment right now. Over 70% of respondents have either added to their gym or started their gym since quarantine started.
  • A massive amount of space is not something that most are dealing with. Over half are working with around 200 sq feet or less.
  • Ceiling heights vary quite a bit, but most are not dealing with a ton of head room.
  • The primary reason that people train is for physical health. Mental health came in at #2.
  • When asked about the #2 reason you train, the most popular answer was to look good with mental health as a close second.

6.13 – Have You Heard of these Companies?

Below you’ll see the results from June compared to the February. Key points include:

  • Rogue continues to be the most well-known company on this list and the top 3 did not change.
  • Those that fell the most include Raptor Fitness, Body-Solid Fitness, Fringe Sport, and Get RXd
  • Gorila Fitness, I Sell Fitness, Tuff Stuff Fitness, and Fray Fitness had the largest improvements.

A few notes on this survey:

  • There have been a lot of new followers since the pandemic started. Therefore, there are probably a lot of new voters in June compared to February.
  • It’s a tough (and probably unfair) comparison when you add a list with so many companies. There are established brands that have a nationwide reach, and others who are happy to just be a “regional” or “local” brand. In addition, some have equipment designed to help a certain type of training (i.e. powerlifting, CrossFit) so the reach may not be as large. This is just something to keep in mind.
  • Just because someone has heard of a certain company does not mean that they will consider purchasing from them.
  • The only way to respond to this survey was through the Instagram Survey in a 24-hour time frame. Therefore, it is assumed that many of those answering the questions are the most engaged home gym owners.
  • This analysis is done every fourth month, so it will happen again in October.

7.6.2020

  • When asked whether you’d rather have any specialty bar or 3 pairs of dumbbells, the voting was split 50/50.

  • 37% believe that Rogue will IPO

7.12.2020

  • Only 16% have ever passed on buying something for their gym due to being afraid of installing or assembling the item. In addition, only 6% have ever not been able to assemble something they’ve purchased.
  • 15% have returned gym equipment.
  • 65% say that Westside Spacing is their ideal spacing for holes on a power rack.

Should people stop complaining about equipment shipping costs? 52% say yes. In the IG post 👇 you’ll find:

  • Small business owners explaining why shipping is the way that it is.
  • Others telling us that just because one company offers free shipping doesn’t mean that it’s actually free for them to ship. It’s just baked into the price.
  • Some comparing companies that offer free shipping vs. those that do not.
  • Overall, those that said we should stop complaining definitely won the argument.
