Just under 2/3rds of those that responded to the last survey have their home gyms in their garage. The basement was a distant second spot for the gym in the home.
If it’s in the garage, why’s it in the garage?
- For most, it’s simply the biggest or only spot in the house
- Many mentioned that they do not have a basement, which would be the ideal spot
- Ceiling height is better in the garage. Many mentioned low ceiling height in the basement
- A better spot to make a lot of noise
- Isolation
- Easier access to the driveway for things like strongman workouts
- Fresh air and view of the outside during the warm months
If it’s in the basement, why’s it in the basement?
- Temperature control. Many don’t want to deal with the cold winters.
- Want to park their cars in the garage
- Easier to keep clean
- It’s the largest possible spot
- “Because I need to park my cars in my garage. I’m not some street clogging savage.”
If it’s in another room in the house, why is it there?
- Temperature control. Too hot or cold in the garage
- We’ve got some apartment owners answering these surveys
- Need garage for other things
- No basement or garage
If not in the last 3 choices, where is it? Why is it there?
- Shed, because no garage or spare room
- Most of these answers were the backyard because it’s the best space or live in a warm climate like San Diego. Some use a large tent or canopy.
- Pole barns
