Evolution Barbell Review

The Evolution Barbell from Again Faster Equipment would be a fantastic barbell for many home gym owners, specifically those looking to start their gym on a budget. At $179 + Free Shipping, it’s one of the best bars you’ll find for the money and a barbell you can trust from a company that’s been around since 2006.

The Evolution is a versatile barbell that can be a workhorse for anyone’s home gym at price that is tough to beat.

Okay, let’s break it down!

The Evolution has a “mild” knurl, and a 28 mm shaft diameter which makes it best for high volume lifting or CrossFit style workouts. It’s easy to grip and your hands will not get beaten up too bad during high-rep, heavy load workouts which involve power cleans, clean and jerk, snatches, deadlifts, etc.

This barbell does not spin for days, but it has a relatively smooth spin for olympic lifts. With bronze bushings, the spin will not get out of control for those high rep workouts and it’s not overly noisy on lifts where the plates are repeatedly hitting the ground. If you are looking for a bar with more spin, you’ll find one with bearings, instead of bushings.

Therefore, it can be used for multiple purposes. While not a power bar, it performs fine for lifts like the deadlift, bench, squat, rows, etc. With a tensile strength of 190k PSI, this bar can handle a heavy load. It’s ready to get to work!

Other Specs:

  • No center knurl so you don’t scrape yourself during movements like thrusters or power cleans
  • 16″ loading sleeves and the overall bar length is 86″
  • IWF & IPF knurl marks
  • The Bright Chrome Finish will help protect against rust and corrosion over time.
  • The bar comes with a Limited Lifetime Warranty where the warranty covers bending and breakage unless it comes from improper or negligent use.
  • 15kg and 20kg options

Based on recent surveys from home gym owners, it can be said that there is a large number of people who expect to 1) pay less than $250 for a barbell and 2) want it to have the ability to spin for the olympic lifts. In addition, most would prefer an “olympic bar” vs. a “power bar” if they only had one. The Evolution Barbell checks all of these boxes.

In the end, this is a barbell that many home gym owners on a budget should consider if they are looking for a multi-purpose bar to do some high volume lifting. The Evolution Bar compares similarly to other barbells on the market that actually go for a higher price. There aren’t any bells or whistles on this barbell, but it’ll get the job done, and you cannot complain about that price!
