For 21 different pieces of equipment, last week’s survey simply asked, “Do you own (x piece of equipment)?” You had the option to respond with – Yes, 1 – Yes, multiple or No. There were nearly 50k responses and 53% of the responses were yes. Here are a few of the highlights:
-
-
- Resistance bands had the highest percentage of owners (86%) with many owning multiple pairs already and the GHD had the lowest (16%).
- Barbells were in “second place” with 83% owning at least one. 43% of respondents have multiple and 39% own at least 1 specialty bar.
- More people have bumper plates than iron plates
- Cardio equipment is not prevalent in most gyms – Air Bike (34%), Rower (34%), and Stationary Bike (23%)
- Dumbbells are more popular than kettlebells for respondents
- Horse Stall Mats are in nearly 2/3rds of respondent’s home gyms
-
Below you will see a % breakdown between all. The “Total % Yes” is adding up the two different yes responses.
All home gyms come in many different shapes and sizes, which this survey helps to display. In general, most have the basics like a squat rack, barbell, and bumper/iron plates, while only a few have the higher priced cardio equipment, Belt Squat, and GHD. Everything in between is basically a toss up!
Cardio equipment is not prevalent in most gyms? What do you think jump ropes are for? And they were pretty much tied with barbell and pair of dumbbells for 2nd place.
I would say that means that cardio “equipment” is very prevalent in garage gyms.
PS. Jumping rope is a LOT more effective than any of the equipment mentioned later down in the list, and is a lot more accessible too given the pricing. 😉
